Toussaint part 3
So after my stint in the hospital, Jamie and Kristin kindly offered to carry by 2 backpacks for me so I wouldnt further injure my neck. We really didnt like the town of Brindisi and it took us hours to find the pharmacy but eventually, we got tix for the night train back to Rome.
We arrived in Rome, again, very early but decided we would try and find a hostel for that night first. After 3 hours of searching online, calling and pleading to front desk people, we still had no home for the night. We were exhausted and cranky. We decided to eat at a restaurant and had a decent lunch. Then the waiter got all rude to us and was like "what are you? Canadians?" in a very nasty voice like its bad to be Canadian or something. So me, in my way overtired, doped up on muscle relaxants state, yelled back "yeah, what are you? Italian?". I have nothing against Italians it just seemed like a good comeback at the time. He was such an ass. We got in contact with some othere assistants that we were planning to meet in Florence and decided to take the after supper train to Florence. We still hadnt seen the Colloseum so we checked that out before we left. It was pretty cool. Just the thought of seeing something so huge that was built so long ago was impressive. Unfortunately, thats the extent of our Rome visiting. There were too many tourists everywhere and it was dirty, as Europe often is just because its so old and so we just wanted out.
We arrived in Florence that evening to meet up with a very energetic Natalie (american assistant) and her 2 friends Lisa and Pavrita. The first thing Natalie said was that I didnt look so good which translates in to "you look like a truck ran over you". All the pics of me in Italy are pretty bad cause I either felt so bad or so spacey. Natalie was staying at a campinf hostel place which to me sounded horrible. I like camping and all but not when my neck and mind are all whacked out and when I havent slept in practically 3 days. I had no energy to find a better place though so we decided to just follow her. The place ended up being in the countryside which was annoying because we had to take a train and a shuttle bus to get there but it was nice because we got to see the true Tuscan countryside. The camp place was in a town called Figline (pronounced fileeny). After our train ride, Natalie called the shuttle driver and kept telling him we were in the town of "Fag Line" which was hilariously funny to our overtired selves. He got us in the end and we ended up meeting 3 other american girls who were at our hostel too. The place ended up being really cheap and we had 3 bed cabins which were brand new and clean with hot showers so we were pretty happy. I slept well and my neck got a nice rest.
The next day, all 9 of us, took taxis to the city and went to see something very cool, the statue of David by Michaelangelo. There are replicas of the statue all over in the city but they paled in comparison to the real thing. He is in the "Galleria dell' Accademia" and he seems to be the star attraction. Pics were forbidden but Nathalie did manage to take a little digi film of him before she got yelled at.

No pics can do him justice. He is huge and amazing. We just sat there on the benches behind his bum, and stared. Its crazy to think that this statue of the "ideal" man at the time (1501-1504), is still what we would consider a perfect male body today. ahhhh I could have stayed there the whole day!
After that, we did dinner at a yummy place and sampled some Tuscan wine. I had a calzone called the "Top Gun" which ended up being sooo big and almost overwhelming but it was good. That night we went to bed early so we could get up early the next day to see more of the city. TBC
